The Southern Branch met on Saturday 21 st January at the Toby Lodge and Carvery, Exeter. The morning topic was Healthy Lambs led by our Peter Luscombe. Starting with leading up to lambing and the health of the ewes, lambing and then keeping the lambs healthy.
After a delicious carvery lunch members had a chance to discuss various topics.
NSA South Sheep in Berkshire – A stand has been booked by the ZSA for this event which is to be held on the 13th June 2012.
The Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show – Mike Simpson gave an update on changes for this years show.
Autumn Meeting – It was suggested that a visit to ‘Adams Farm’, of Countryfile fame,located in the Cotswolds would be an interesting outing, as this could possibly be arranged – to be confirmed.
The afternoon was rounded up with an informative slideshow presentation by Chris Caunter on the History of Zwartbles Sheep. The Zwartbles originally came from a sheep called the Schoonebeeker.
Open Day – Ashton Selway has very kindly offered to host an Open Day on 20th May. The morning will be on selecting lambs followed by demonstaration of butchery. The afternoon will be a farm walk.
