A good entry was forward at the recent in lamb sale held by McCartneys at Worcester market. This included a small entry of rams. The sale was well attended by buyers from near and far.
The only flock ewe at the sale from Archie Smith-Maxwell Melon (231-027N) and scanned with quads made 380gns. Leading prices for in lamb gimmer shearlings were for two at 300gns from A McCurdie’s Mac flock (lot 6 201-1429T) and G A & M Francis Pistyll flock (lot 25 054-198T) and at 260gns from P & A Coombs Mendip flock (lot 10 009-071T) and 250gns from E & M McConkey’s Barmoll flock (lot 2 Tina). Ave 196gns
A number of good quality ewe lambs were forward meeting a keen trade and topped at 420gns for Holly Winnie (lot 55) from R Holloway. Other leading prices were 280,250 and 220gns from W Williams Pen Llyn flock. Ave 172gns.
The small number of rams forward continued this year’s trend of being difficult to sell. The overall sale champion Cynefin Twm (lot 91) from R Holloway’s Holly flock failed to make it reserve and no other shearlings brought forward were sold. In the ram lambs the top price was 220gns for the first placed lamb from A & C Houseman Viking Win (lot 101). This was the only ram lamb to make more than 100gns.
A number of non MV ewe lambs were forward and sold to a top of 140gns (lot 60 387-074W) from C Belcher other leading prices from the same home were 135 and 130gns. Ave 103gns
