The ZSA Northern Region Branch held a beginners trimming event on Sunday 14th May. Kindly hosted by Gillian and Tom Blamire of the Whinnow flock, members travelled to Cumbria on a fine sunny day from as far afield as York to learn how to prepare their sheep for the show ring.
Trimming demonstrations were given by Caroline Anderson (Wallridge Moor), Peter & Susan Addison (Hayberries) Ailsa Forsyth (Harle) Gillian Blamire(Whinnow) and Debra Walker(Collie Garth). Many questions were asked, the trimming stands used closely inspected, and useful hints and tips freely shared. Susan also produced a helpful handout for members to take home with them detailing what equipment they might consider putting together as a basic show kit.
A raffle was held to help branch funds, swiftly followed by refreshments with members tucking into the wonderful array of home baked goods provided by the branch committee. Special mention must go to Sally Donnelly (Saltur) for her outstanding scones, jam and clotted cream, that received rave reviews and to Amy and Emma Blamire for their diligent work supplying the teas and coffee.
The branch received lovely feedback after the event on social media, with everyone agreeing they had a great day out, enjoyed meeting other members and learning a new skill to get them started with showing their sheep.
The Committee would like to thank everyone who attended for making this event such a success and look forward to meeting them again at the various shows throughout the summer.
Report kindly submitted by Debra Walker.
