Zwartbles Sale Tops at 1,900gns
The 16th annual Zwartbles Sheep Association Sale was held on the 8th of August at Harrison and Hetherington under the new Covid rules being one or the first pedigree sales of the year. Around 100 buyers attended the market while many more watched a live stream from home and bid over the internet.
The sale leader at 1,900gns was a shearling gimmer Greystone Grace sired by Cragies Django and hombred ewe Callander from M McLaren and A Baird Dunblane sold to Arfon Lloyd’s Derwen flock and headed off to Gwynedd in Wales. Next at 1,800gns was a shearling Joyfield Golden Girl from J & N Millar Lockerbie selling to T & I Goldies flock making a short journey up the road to Dumfries. Golden Girl is sired by Millburn Sam and out of a Cynefin ewe. Next at 1,200gns was Hayberries Gong Wong from P & S Addison Barnard Castle selling to B & A Taylors Eden Lodge flock Co Durham she’s sired by Beech Hay Chancellor and out of a Hayberries ewe.
Ewe lambs continued the buoyant female trade topping at 1,000gns for Thisledome Hope perhaps aptly named to brighten this year. Hope was bred by K Shaikh Glasgow and is sired by Croy Eddie out of Brookdene Duchess and went back to Grange over Sands with M & A Bigland’s Bigland flock. Next was another Greystone female Hawthorn at 950gns she went Bentham to join the Brookdene flock of R Heigh and was sired by the popular Craigies Django’s out of another hombred ewe Dornoch followed by two at 800gns Donbraid Hayley and Holly both sired by homebred ram Great Expectations and going home with Tasley Zwartbles to the Midlands.
While rams were harder to sell it was a shearling who topped at 1,000gns Aqulia Globe Trotter sired by popular Milburn Sam from homebred ewe Canada came down from Stirling with N, R & S Henderson sold to the Goldies flock Dumfries. At 950gns Pistyll Gunner from A, H & A, R Francis Carmarthen and is sired by Bessiebell Fantastic sold to K & S Cowin and made the trip north to Lanark to join the Hellstanes flock.
Ram lambs topped at 1,000gns for another Pistyll male this time Hugo sired by Redgate Gaston selling to H Hourstons Didcot flock making the long trip to the Orkney Isles in Scotland and at 850gns was Wallridge Moor Holand from C Anderson Northumberland going across the water to I Donald’s Donbraid flock in Co Tyrone Ireland. Holand is out of hombred ram Gizmo and ewe Elinor.
